The final testnet for ETH 2 Phase 0 has gone off without a hitch. Will we see mainnet in 2020?
Hello Ethereans!
The “final testnet” before ETH 2’s Phase 0 had a successful launch at 12:00 UTC today, paving the way for a possbile 2020 launch on mainnet. While no date has yet been given for Phase 0 genesis, the ongoing success of the Medalla testnet combined with this most recent “dress rehearsal” signals a high likelihood that ETH 2 will begin its journey onto mainnet in a matter of weeks.
This comes at a time when Layer 2 scaling solutions have begun to expand at a rapid pace. While Synthetix continues its testnet with Optimism’s “optimistic rollups”, Matic Network has begun scaling DeFi with the successful launch of the money market, EasyFi. And just today, zero-knowledge rollup software, Aztec, announced Aztec 2.0 today, with an entirely new “private contract language”, Noir.
The progress Ethereum has made in recent months has been shrouded by enormous hype in DeFi that culminated in a series of “rug pulls” and scams that saw billions wiped from the market.
With this short-lived hype out of the way, a more optimistic and exciting future for Ethereum has begun to emerge, and one that is taking shape faster than ever.
In this preview we look at:
BTC facing a sell-side liquidity crisis.
Uniswap TVL continues to record highs.
